What plumbing repairs do you carry out?
We carry out most domestic plumbing repairs on water supply, waste pipes and fittings. Common jobs include:
- Dripping or stiff taps, and tap replacement
- Shower repairs, including leaking showers and poor shower flow
- Toilets that run constantly, won't flush or leak at the base
- Faulty cisterns, fill valves and flush valves
- Leaking waste pipes under sinks and baths
- Low water pressure and poor flow
- Noisy pipes and banging when taps are turned off
- Faulty stop taps and isolation valves
- Outside taps that leak or have stopped working
- Leaking washing machine and dishwasher connections
We don't carry out gas or boiler work. For those, you'll need a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Why small plumbing faults are worth fixing quickly
Small plumbing faults tend to get worse and more expensive if they're left. A dripping tap wastes water and, on a meter, adds to your bill. A toilet that runs constantly can do the same, and a leak at the base of a toilet or under a sink can soak into the floor and rot the boards beneath. A stop tap that won't turn is a problem you'll only discover in an emergency, when you need it most. Fixing these faults early keeps the repair small and protects your home.
What causes common plumbing faults?
Most common plumbing faults are caused by wear. Washers and ceramic cartridges in taps wear out with use. Seals and valves inside toilet cisterns perish or get clogged with limescale, particularly in hard water areas. Compression joints loosen over time as pipes heat up, cool down and move. Banging pipes are often caused by pipework that isn't clipped securely, or by water hammer when a valve shuts off quickly. Low pressure can be a partly closed valve, a blockage, or a problem with the supply to the property.
What affects the cost of a plumbing repair?
The cost of a plumbing repair depends on how long the job takes, what parts are needed, and when you book. Replacing a tap cartridge is a quick job; tracing low pressure or a noise through the house takes longer. Access matters too, as pipes behind tiles, boxing or kitchen units take longer to reach. Our standard hourly call-out rates, excluding parts, materials and VAT, are:
Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm£100 / hour
Monday to Friday, after 5pm£150 / hour
Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 5pm£150 / hour
Saturday and Sunday, after 5pm£180 / hour
Emergency callouts may vary, so ask us for details. There are no hidden charges, and we always confirm a fixed price for your job before we start.
Should I repair or replace a tap, toilet or valve?
Repair is usually the right choice when a tap, toilet or valve is in good condition and only a worn part, such as a washer, cartridge or seal, has failed. Replacement makes more sense when parts are no longer available, when the fitting is corroded or cracked, or when it has already been repaired several times. Sometimes the cost of a new mid-range tap is close to the cost of a repair on an old one. We'll give you both options and a fixed price for each so you can decide.
Can I save money by booking plumbing repairs together?
If you have several small plumbing jobs, booking them in one visit is usually cheaper than calling a plumber out for each one separately, because you're paying for one visit rather than several. Make a list of everything that needs attention, such as a dripping tap, a running toilet and a stiff stop tap, and tell us when you book. We'll quote a fixed price for the whole visit.
Plumbing repair FAQs
Can a dripping tap wait, or should I get it fixed now?
A dripping tap isn't an emergency, so you can book it for a weekday visit at our standard daytime rate. It's still worth fixing soon, as the drip usually gets worse, wastes water and can stain your sink. If the tap won't turn off at all, turn off its isolation valve or the stop tap and call us.
Why is my toilet constantly running?
A toilet usually runs constantly because the fill valve isn't shutting off or the flush valve isn't sealing, so water keeps flowing into the pan. Limescale, worn seals and incorrectly set float levels are common causes. It's normally a straightforward repair, and fixing it stops wasted water and the noise.
Do you repair plumbing for landlords and letting agents?
Yes. We carry out plumbing repairs in rented properties across Essex, Kent and East London for landlords and letting agents, and we can liaise with tenants to arrange access. For ongoing work across several properties, ask us about commercial contracts.
